Luke Macfarlane, star of Bros, Killjoys, and Brothers & Sisters, has just welcomed his first daughter with partner Hig Roberts. Their daughter, called Tess Eleanor Macfarlane, was born on June 4, 2023.
Roberts was born in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and started skiing at a very young age. Over the years, he competed as an alpine skier in college and then joined the United States Ski Team in 2015. Up until 2019, when he retired from sports, Roberts won two giant slalom national titles and was a first alternate at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
In 2020, Roberts came out as gay. He told Out in an interview:
“I didn’t know what gay was in terms of how that could exist in the spaces I loved and the spaces I found myself, which was sports. I was not sure if what I was feeling was matching up with the way I was perceiving gayness at that time, which was obviously a wrong [depiction]. That’s a big reason for me speaking up as an athlete. As athletes, the visibility for LGBTQ+ people has been very quiet. There hasn’t been a lot of representation in the space, especially in alpine skiing, a very masculine, aggressive, strength-based sport.”
Now, Roberts and Macfarlane are fathers of a precious little girl and we couldn’t be happier for them!
