Hunter Schafer reacts to 'X-Men' Mystique casting rumors

Could Hunter Schafter be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

The Euphoria star has been asked about the fan-casting posts and rumors that she could be cast to play the shape-shifting supervillain (and sometimes hero) Mystique in upcoming Marvel projects that introduce the X-Men into the MCU franchise.

Schafer attended the 2025 Film Independent Spirit Awards after being nominated in the Best Lead Performance category for her role in the horror movie Cuckoo. When asked about the fan-casting posts about Mystique, Schafer revealed that she had seen some of

"I did see [it]. My dad texted me about that," Schafer told Entertainment Tonight while walking the red carpet. "Yeah, that would be cool! These fancasts come around every once in a while and it's very sweet, and always for characters that I really like."

Schafer also discussed being back on the set of Euphoria — noting that they had recently started filming for the first time in years.

Otherwise, the actress was asked about her viral video revealing that her renewed passport had been issued with its gender marker changed to male.

"Honestly, I wasn't really looking for support when I made that post, but it was really sweet. You know, I have a really wonderful community that surrounded me. And I felt very supported before then and since that happened. So, I feel really lucky and great."
