Quite a few LGBTQ+ celebrities have already gotten engaged or married in 2024, even though we still have quite a bit to go!
As we continue to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and the same-sex marriage rights that we've long fought for, we will continue to spotlight these incredible milestones for couples who are showing the world that "love is love." No one should be able to take that away from us — and we won't let them.
Scroll through to check out which LGBTQ+ couples have gotten married or engaged in 2024.
The two pro wrestlers tied the knot in June in a joint Instagram post that read, "One sec... my HUSBAND is calling me."
They previously announced their engagement in the fall of last year.
Okay, this couple technically eloped in October 2023, tying the knot without immediately letting the whole world know about it. However, it wasn't until June 2024 that Hairspray legend Nikki Blonsky exclusively told Out that she had gotten married to Hailey Jo Jenson.
"I saw Nikki in 2007, and I had a crush on her ever since," Jenson told Out in an interview about their marriage.
When talking about how they proposed to each other, Blonsky revealed: "I was going to try and do some big elaborate proposal, but that's not really us, and I just wanted it to be genuine. And so we were just hanging out watching TV in bed one night, and the ring was burning a hole in my pocket. My pants were on fire."
We couldn't be happier for these two adorable lovebirds!
Supernatural actor DJ Qualls, who played a werewolf named Garth on the long-running CW series, announced in May that he and former castmate Ty Olsson, who played a vampire named Benny, are engaged to be married!
On his Locked and Probably Loaded podcast, Qualls opened up about how he and Olsson met and bonded on a trip to a fan convention to promote Supernatural, and how they hit it off.
"On that trip, I met Ty. At the convention, we didn't know each other at all. We maybe said three words together at the Supernatural convention, and then we went to London for four or five days afterward," he revealed. "And then I was going to Turkey with a friend, and he is such a pure, awesome guy, he came up to us — we all went out as a group — and he was like, 'Can I come on your trip with you?' And I'm like, 'That is so ballsy!' I could never invite myself on somebody's trip. 'Cause I'd be afraid they would begrudgingly tell me yes and then not want me there. But it was just so pure and awesome, and that's who he is. I didn't know him. And it was the beginning of our friendship."
He continued: "Ty and I became inseparable at the very beginning — just immediately — and over the last 10 years, our relationship evolved to what it is today, and now we're getting married. It's just so crazy that this person who was just my friend now I think about all the time, and he sends the best messages, and he supports me and loves me unconditionally in the right way. Because I would never abuse that."
Latin Grammy Award-winning singer Jhonny Caz, best known for his work with the Mexican band Grupo Firme, told Soy Grupero in May 2024 that he's gotten married to his partner Jonathan Bencomo.
Between Caz coming out in 2020 and Bencomo proposing to marry him in 2021, it's been quite a journey for this couple to tie the knot… but we're so glad it finally happened!
Abbi Jacobson (Broad City, A League of Their Own) and Jodi Balfour (For All Mankind, Ted Lasso) met in 2020, during lockdown, as Jacobson was still recovering from the end of another long-term relationship. As of 2024, Jacobson and Balfour have now tied the knot!
"We decided to make the party a surprise. After dinner, the Westerlies burst out of the kitchen playing Stevie Wonder's 'Sir Duke,'" Balfour told Cultured about their wedding ceremony. "We followed them from the dining room to the dance floor in the sound room, where Matt FX [music supervisor on Broad City] started DJ-ing."
Jacobson added, "Our first dance was to Aretha Franklin's 'Don't Let Me Lose This Dream.' My dress destroyed Jo's tights within 35 seconds."
Out, gay, soccer player Josh Cavallo got engaged to Leighton Morrell on March 13. The athlete announced their engagement in an Instagram post that read:
"Starting this year with my fiancé [ring emoji; heart emoji]. Thank you, @adelaideunited, for helping set up this surprise. Your endless support has meant so much to me. You have provided a safe space in football, one that I never in my dreams thought could ever be possible, and encouraged me to live every day of my life authentically. It felt right to share this special moment on the pitch, where it all started."
Best known as a WWE superstar and Total Divas cast member, Daria Berenato got married to partner Toni Cassano in an intimate New Jersey wedding officiated by Maria Menounos on February 10, as reported by People.
"I think we have two and a half tables or three tables of just WWE people," Berenato told the publication prior to their wedding ceremony. "We have our neighbors coming and old family friends, and so it's like this big wrestler next to my little neighbor. There's going to be some funny pairings there."
After being engaged for five years, Don Lemon and Tim Malone finally followed through and got married. The couple tied the knot on April 6 in New City York. "I'm a last-minute person," Lemon told People. "And most things I just don't worry about."
Lemon and Malone celebrated this milestone with a joint Instagram post of them all dressed up and carrying their dogs. "Just married!" the caption reads.
All the Queen's Men star Carter The Body got engaged to partner Nelli in February, announcing the proposal through a joint Instagram post that included a ring emoji.
"Jamaica, you owe us nothing!" Carter wrote in a subsequent Instagram video. "Thank you, Jamaica, thank you #breathlessmontegobay! Y'all made a fiancé outta us!"
After being partners for 16 years, The Great British Bake Off's John Whaite and partner Paul Atkins finally got married and announced their union in an Instagram post shared on February 1. The Strictly Come Dancing star wrote, "Our big day in the Big Apple. Mr. & Mr."
Whaite then referenced a quote from former Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy when same-sex marriage rights were made legal in the U.S., saying:
"No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death."
The statement continued, "It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right."
On January 22, America's Got Talent alum Kameron Ross and Lio Botello revealed that they got engaged at Playa Zipolite in Mexico. Ross wrote in an Instagram post:
"Four years of love, laughter, and countless memories led to a magical moment on a Mexican beach. He said 'yes' to being together forever. Here's to our journey together!"
Botello also shared his own post, writing:
"[Kameron Ross] told me he was going to put a ring on my ring finger a week into dating. I was obsessed with this beautiful man that came into my life, straightened up the crown on my head while making me feel like I was living in a fairytale. I knew he was serious and couldn't wait to be able to call him my 'fiancé' and now I can. You still give me butterflies."
Out, gay, baseball player TJ House tied the knot with his partner Ryan Neitzel on March 29. The couple announced their marriage in a joint Instagram post that read:
"It's that can't eat, can't sleep, reach for the stars, over the fence, World Series kind of love."
Rupert Everett told Tatler in a recent interview that he secretly married his long-time partner, Henrique, in a low-key ceremony held at the Camden Town Hall. While the My Best Friend's Wedding star didn't share too many details about the wedding, this marriage update was shared once the publication's cover story dropped on August 23.
Everett said:
"I have always hated weddings, although I do love funerals. But when you get older… I have seen so many problems that gay couples face, so it's really more about forward-thinking, as we have been together for a long time now."
Loot and Fire Island star Joel Kim Booster confirmed to Out in August that he popped the question to partner John-Michael Sudsina while the two were vacationing in Jeju Island in South Korea.
"Vacation boyfriend -> Vacation husband," Booster wrote in an X post sharing the news with his fans and followers. "Try to be normal about this."
Rebel Wilson and her partner Ramona Agruma went public with their relationship in the summer of 2022, and got engaged at Disneyland the following year. Together, they are raising Wilson's daughter.
Now, they've gotten married in a beautiful ceremony in Sardinia, Italy on Saturday, September 28.
