He wanted some Lando in his Brando, know what I mean?
Billy Dee Williams, best known for playing Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars movies, is currently promoting his new memoir, What Have We Here? Portraits of a Life.
During a recent interview, Williams told People that he got “propositioned” by Marlon Brando while attending a Hollywood A-list party hosted by the A Streetcar Named Desire actor. Williams politely declined Brando’s offer, saying: “I prefer women.”
Given his reputation for playing heartthrobs in films like Mahogany and The Empire Strikes Back, Williams added: “I’ve been getting hit on all my life. Gay, straight, whatever, somebody’s always hitting on me.”
Best known for his performances in The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, Last Tango in Paris, One-Eyed Jacks, and On the Waterfront, Brando is considered one of the best actors in the history of cinema. He’s also credited as one of the actors who popularized the Stanislavski system of acting, which is currently referred to as “method acting.”
Brando was married three times and had a total of 11 children. He also had numerous girlfriends and a long-standing reputation of also being attracted to men. In different interviews, Brando casually suggested that he was bisexual and/or gay, but this fact about the Hollywood legend has only gotten more acknowledged and widely reported in recent years.
Williams has been friends with various LGBTQ+ celebrities, so we absolutely stan him as an ally. When it comes to turning down Brando, though… let’s just say we can NOT relate!
Billy Dee Williams’ new memoir, What Have We Here? Portraits of a Life is set to release on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
