Mother has arrived!
Michaela Jaé Rodriguez has made history for the trans community in mainstream media and garnered plenty of accolades throughout the years.
Recently, she added the Equality Award from the Human Rights Campaign to her mantle for her incredible activism, representation, and talent in the entertainment industry.
The star caught up with Out on the red carpet just before accepting her award at the HRC Dinner.
"I'm glad that I can finally feel like somebody I can be looked up to and spread awareness. The most important thing is representation. Right now, the LGBTQIA community is at the precipice of being slandered and it's under attack. Sooner or later, there will be other attacks on other communities," Rodriguez tells Out.
With a slew of hateful laws being introduced across the country toward the LGBTQ+ community, Rodriguez is using her voice to fight back and spread a loving message.
"Love is the way. If you are living without love, I don't know what you're doing. I think that's the only way we can understand people and have a higher conscious of understanding is when we love people. That's why I'm here. I'm glad that you see me and I see you. There are a lot of topics that we have to attack right now. We are under a lot of pressure when it comes to the LGBTQIA community, but that's not going to stop us. That's not going to stop me. I'm not going nowhere! I'm still here."
