The out Grammy nominee's pole is, quite literally, a work of art!

Omar Apollo is opening up about the process behind the beautiful strokes used to create the beautiful — and sexy — artwork for his latest EP.

Earlier this month, the out Best New Artist Grammy nominee unveiled the steamy artwork for his EP Live For Me, which features four songs: “Ice Slippin,” “Live For Me,” “Angel,” and “Pilot.” The front cover of the EP features a beautiful painting of Apollo laying down shirtless, touching his bare chest.

But it’s the painting on the back that we’re really interested in!

On the back of the album is another beautiful painting from out artist Doran Langberg (who also did the front cover). That painting shows Apollo reclining in a chair with his hand on his naked, erect penis.

Now, Apollo has opened up about what the painting process was like with Lanbgerg.

“We go into his studio, which I’ve already been in, we hung out, we talked, we had a great time, we connected,” Apollo recounted in a new video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by user Kevin Wong at the Live For Me Immersive Listening Experience event that was held on Thursday night at New York City's MoMA PS1. “Then, we do the first painting. And then I go, ‘Let’s go get a sandwich, let’s go do a lunch break, and then you decide afterwards if you still want to do the dick portrait.’”

“I was like, ‘How do I encourage this?’” Langberg joked, saying he could tell Apollo was nervous, but wanted to make him more comfortable.

“I was nervous about it. I’m a confident guy, don’t get me wrong, but I was nervous about it,” Apollo added.

Apollo then brought up gay photographer Peter Hujar, and said that they took inspiration from him, and a photo he took of a man masturbating. “That was, like, the vibe,” he said.

“He paints from observation…” Apollo laughed, gesturing to Langberg. “So it was very like, it was exhilarating. I was like ‘woah!’”

Apollo then encouraged all his fans to check out more of Langberg’s work, calling the artist “a superstar in our world.”

At the end of the video, the two artists hug, and thank each other for the work on their collaboration. We definitely want to thank both of them, too!
