“I love doing those roles, I love those characters, but then I did want to do more things,” she said in an interview.

Rebel Wilson has caused a lot of chatter about her weight, having lost nearly 80 pounds over the course of a few years and documenting her journey on her Instagram.

In a new interview on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Wilson shocked listeners when she said her contract required her to maintain her size during her five years filming Pitch Perfect.

“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight, because I was in contracts for that movie,” she said. “You can’t lose I think it’s more than 10 pounds or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight that’s in your contract.”

Although Wilson had thought of losing weight, the contract with Pitch Perfect led her to be typecast as the “fat, funny friend.” She noted, “I love doing those roles, I love those characters, but then I did want to do more things.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Wilson noted that she gained 100 pounds in college due to her polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and didn’t make any real strides toward losing weight until she started approaching 40 years old and thinking about being a mom.

Wilson had previously admitted it wasn’t only her contract that prevented her from losing weight, telling BBC News in 2021 that she also didn’t have the support of those around her when she started her journey.

“I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood,” she said. “They were like, ‘Why? Why would you wanna do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars for being the funny fat girl and being that person.”

Wilson has publicly addressed her “emotional eating” habits, but also questions why people are “so obsessed” with the way women look and is challenging the idea of what “traditionally beautiful” really is.
