Caresha Brownlee, better known by her stage name Yung Miami, is one of the two rappers in the City Girls duo. During a recent interview with Vlad TV, DJ and podcaster Akademiks accused Yung Miami of contributing to homophobia in society – despite being best friends with gay rapper Saucy Santana.
Akademiks said:
“I’ll definitely say this about Caresha, Yung Miami. I believe a lot of Black women is why the levels of homophobia is what it is. Those people who usually have gay friends, right? Because, you know, women always say they have a gay best friend. [But] let them get mad at a straight dude [and] they’ll try to belittle you by calling you gay.”
Santana took to Instagram to defend his best friend, directly addressing Akademiks’ claims that Yung Miami has contributed to homophobia in society.
The rapper said in a video shared via Instagram story.
“Akademiks, you keep talking about what the f*ck Caresha said to you, but how she feel about you, is how she feel about you. Me being her best friend, it don’t have nothing to f*cking do with me. In the hood, and in a lot of urban cultures, when you see boys that are acting feminine, that are being messy, that are being extra and doing f*g sh*t, that’s what you address them as.”
Santana continued, “Even as me being a gay man, I don’t move like a f*g. And it’s a lot of other gay boys that are feminine or whatever, but everybody don’t move like f*gs. You move like a f*g.”
By the end of the video, Santana told Akademiks to “pull up” to Yung Miami’s latest party so that they could resolve this issue. Alas, it seems like Akademiks did not show up to the event.
