Pansexual adult film star and LGBTQ+ activist Sophie Anderson died unexpectedly at the age of 36.
In 2018, Anderson became a viral sensation after posting meme-worthy videos as one-half of "Cock Destroyers" alongside friend and fellow entertainer Rebecca More. The duo was quickly embraced by the queer community, even inspiring a girl group name on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK before ultimately parting ways in 2021 after a falling out, reported Them.
“I’m devastated hearing the awful news of Sophie’s passing,” More wrote on Instagram on Monday, confirming Anderson’s death. “We shared some amazing times together and that’s how I’m going to remember her. The bubbly, funny, kind hearted soul who was outrageous on the outside but also so gentle behind closed doors. We were very close, and we shared a crazy time together that was totally unique to us. That’s how I will remember her. This is so tragic but I know you are now at peace. I will always always love you and hold a special place in my heart.”
The pair also worked together to create an LGBTQ+ sex education video for Netflix in 2020 that covered everything from PrEP to douching.
Recently, Anderson starred on the queer game show F*cking Smart with Drag Race alum Willam and host Sapphire Slay, the second season of which aired this past summer. On every episode of the fun and naughty quiz show, the host would drill contestants on their knowledge of sex, politics, and queer pop culture.
Her death comes two week after her boyfriend and fellow porn star Oliver Spedding at age 34.
Once news of Anderson's death was announced, fans and friends began posting tributes on social media. Drag Race UK starDivina De Campo wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “So incredibly sad to hear of the passing of darling Sophie Anderson. She was outrageous but she was also incredibly sweet and a continuous advocate for those in the LGBTQ+ community and her industry. A genuinely sweet soul. Rest in peace darling.”
One fan wrote, “Sophie Anderson was way more than a meme and a legend. She was a fierce supporter of the LGBTQ+ community and by all accounts a sweetheart who will be missed. May she rest in peace knowing she valiantly despunked countless cocks.”
Actor Dan Ellis also posted a tribute, “Desperately sad to hear about Sophie Anderson. Becoming a queer icon overnight and doing so much good for people that work in the sex industry all while having her tongue firmly planted in her cheek. Was lucky enough to meet her once & the warmth she exuded was off the scale.”
At the time of this writing, further details about Anderson’s death have not been made public.
