The driver was delivering the offensive sandwich to a gay couple.

A DoorDash driver in the town of Sandwich, Massachusetts, has been arrested after he allegedly drew a penis and wrote an anti-gay slur on the wrapper of a sandwich he was delivering to a gay couple, and then posted a video of his actions to Snapchat.

Matthew Butchard, 27, was taken into custody on Friday, September 17, in Sandwich and charged with criminal harassment, a civil rights violation, and property damage to intimidate.

According to a copy of the Sandwich Police report obtained by The Smoking Gun, a female contacted police after viewing the Snapchat where Butchard can allegedly be seen writing "Todd + Steve = gay f*gs" and also drawing a penis on the wrapper of a sandwich he was delivering via DoorDash to the home of Todd Hermann, 62, and Steven James, 63.

The female witness told police she did not know Butchard personally but had "friends in Sandwich" who reported he was "terrorizing the town."

"This is not right and something needs to be done," she told police.

When police visited the home of Hermann and James, their adult son answered the door and told the officer he was unaware of the earlier sandwich slur delivery incident and video, but indicated he was not surprised because "that's the way he is." The son told police Butchard had posted "similar shit about my family" on social media for two weeks earlier this summer. The son said he confronted Butchard who then allegedly threatened to "spray paint both of your dad's cars if you come near me."

When police queried why Butchard would target his family, the son replied "Butchard doesn't like me because I have two gay dads I guess."

The family also reported that their mailbox was recently damaged, the only one on their street to be vandalized, and their yard was littered with fast food wrappers and trash.

Butchard, who was once described in media reports as a "bootleg Justin Bieber" due to his haircut at the time, has a lengthy and unsavory history in Sandwich. According to CapeCod.com, he was arrested in 2017 and charged with possession and distribution of Xanax, LSD, Psilocybin (or magic mushrooms), and concentrated marijuana dabs. Cape Newsreported Butchard was arrested again last year and charged with the sale of marijuana after neighbors complained he was selling drugs out of his car in their cul-de-sac.

"We get a lot of calls from the neighborhood because he's driving the neighborhood crazy," Deputy Chief Michael Nurse said at the time.

No further information was released about Butchard or his future court appearances.
