Brooke Lynn Hytes Says It's Time to 'Let Branjie Go'
The first ‘Drag Race’ romance is officially dead.
Most of us can't remember a single thing that happened in season 11 of RuPaul's Drag Race besides the love affair between Brooke Lynn Heights and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, but sadly that love is no more. While the couple confirmed on the season 11 reunion that they were no longer together, fans have held out hope that they would reconcile -- after all, Heights sold Branjie hats to benefit the Trevor Project.
But on Monday, Heights unequivocally told fans that the romance between the former cast members was over, period. "Y'all really need to let Branjie go," she wrote. "I love Jose so much. He is kind, loyal, funny (and crazy) and I love spending time with him and am so happy he is my FRIEND. We will always have love for each other and have each other's backs." The post was captioned: "Instagram Stan accounts I'm looking RIGHT at you."
So there you are: Branjie is dead boots the house down for your nerves, mawma.
On Drag Race, Heights said that the couple was "going to see where it goes and see what happens!" Vanjie added: "If you want it to work, it'll work. If you don't put effort into it, it's not going to work." Clearly these two weren't putting the required effort into keeping the romance alive, though to be fair, they're pretty busy these days.
Several Drag Race queens commented on Height's announcement, with fellow season 11 competitor Plastique Tiara telling Heights she "just created a wave of depression for all the 13 [year] old white girls nationwide" and Aja asking if Heights was "gonna tell them about us now." Let the kai kais continue!
