RuPaul’s Drag Race Is Getting a Las Vegas Residency
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!’ opens January 2020 at the Flamingo Las Vegas.
RuPaul must have watched season two of Glow because it was announced at DragCon in New York City this weekend that the Drag Race girls will be following the footsteps of the gorgeous ladies of wrestling with their own Las Vegas show.
RuPaul's Drag Race Live! will launch at the Flamingo Las Vegas in January 2020. Directed by Jamal Sims, the live show "will be the most sickening eleganza extravaganza in Las Vegas herstory," according to a press release. The event "will encourage audience participation, packed with outrageous comedy, eye-popping fashions, over-the-top singing and dancing, heartwarming moments, plus twists and turns that will leave the audience gagging for more."
Fan favorites Aquaria, Asia O'Hara, Coco Montrese, Derrick Barry, Eureka O'Hara, India Ferrah, Kahanna Montrese, Kameron Michaels, Kim Chi, Naomi Smalls, Shannel, and Yvie Oddly will all make guest appearances.
In the press release, RuPaul said the show "is an immersive, interactive thrill-ride for everyone who loves to laugh, dance, and sing-along when a fabulous drag queen shakes her padded ass on stage." Producers Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey added that audiences will get to experience the world of Drag Race "in the most interactive way possible," complete with "original music, world-class performances by America's favorite queens, and all of the self-awareness and attitude of the television show."
The Drag Race residency wasn't the only news to come out of Drag Con. Per its official Twitter account, the convention will be journeying across the pond, "bringing all of our goops and gags ... and packing it into two sickening days on January 18th and 19th!" U.K. fans will "be able to shop with our amazing vendors, visit with the cast of RuPaul's Drag Race U.K. and select U.S. Queens, and enjoy some of your favorite panels and performances at our Main Stage!"
Supermodels of the world, indeed.
