Kim Chi, a runner-up for the top prize on season 8 of RuPaul's Drag Race, is making history. Today, the entrepreneur announced that her cosmetics line was available in CVS Stores.
"Crying tears of joy because KimChi Chic Beauty is now in select CVS stores and I couldn't possibly imagine we'd grow this big," she wrote to Twitter. "Thank you so much to everyone who believes in and loves our brand!!! It truly means a lot! Didn't ever think you'd see a POC queer brand at CVS did ya!"
The news is historic for a drag queen-owned beauty line.
“Crying tears of joy because @KimchiChic beauty is now in select CVS stores and I couldn’t possibly imagine we’d grow this big 😭 Thank you so much to everyone who believes in and loves our brand!!! Chi launched KimChi Chic just under three years ago in collaboration with NYX founder Toni Ko. In October 2021, she celebrated the company's second anniversary with a mansion party in Los Angeles. Over the years, the star has done a series of collaborations with key players including fellow Drag Race alum Plastique Tiara.
Chi was not the first queen to launch a beauty line that she owned. Miss Fame launched Miss Fame Beauty in 2018. Other brands that round out the space include Trixie Mattel's Trixie Cosmetics and Willam's Suck Less, previously called Coverboy. Fellow entrepreneur Mattel frequently mentions and praises Chi's products on her own YouTube channel.
“So excited to see @KimChi_Chic makeup at my local CVS. It’s safe to say I got myself a nice little selection of items I’ve wanted to try for a while💓”— Rosangela Farrell (@Rosangela Farrell) 1646698225
On the KimChi Chic site, it lists availability at CVS locations up and down the east coast as well as in California. There are also locations in Texas.
