Mama Ru is taking over the mother-tucking world as she expands the RuPaul’s Drag Race universe. However, there are also various drag performers not attached to the franchise who are making waves when it comes to their social media following.
Whether they work as musicians, actors, comedians, models, and/or digital influencers, drag performers are taking this art form into mainstream media and pushing the boundaries for LGBTQ+ content. What's more, these queer artists are becoming legitimate celebrities with as many fans and followers as their straight peers – which used to be unthinkable for drag entertainers.
Even though certain fans think that the most famous drag queens in the world are all attached to the Drag Race franchise, that is certainly not the case. While one can never deny the large impact that Drag Race has had in the world, a third of the most-followed queens on social media reached fame and notoriety without being a part of Mama Ru’s franchise. Namely, Brazilian comedy queen Blogueirinha has launched the digital talk show De Frente Com Blogueirinha and is on the verge of reaching 4 million followers on Instagram, surpassing every single contestant from the Drag Race series.
