On Wednesday, March 29, RuPaul and Build-a-Bear announced a brand-new collaboration featuring the first-ever RuPaul stuffed bear.
In an Instagram video, the Drag Race host was captured seeing the RuPaul bear for the first time, showing off the official Build-a-Bear “birth certificate,” and offering high praise for the toy’s fabulousness. RuPaul also shared a link to the official Build-a-Bear store for fans to purchase this toy, which is described by the toy company as follows:
“Start your engines – RuPaul Bear is ready to sashay into your collection! Mama Ru makes her debut on the Build-a-Bear mainstage in the form of the first-ever RuPaul Bear! RuPaul Bear is ready for any Eleganza Extravaganza thanks to her signature wig, gold sequin dress, and matching shoes included in this glamazon gift set. The RuPaul logo is also featured on her gold paw pad. Give our ultra-cute RuPaul gifts to surprise any of your friends obsessed with the hit franchise. And remember – if you can’t love yourself, how are you gonna love somebody else?”
However, upon visiting the official Build-a-Bear website and searching for the RuPaul Bear collection for purchase, a surprising – and rather disappointing – warning comes up.
Build-a-Bear
“You are about to enter The Bear Cave,” a black warning pops up on the Build-a-Bear website before the RuPaul Bear collection can even be seen. “The Bear Cave is filled with unexpected collabs and unique plush gifts, intended for shoppers 18 and older. Please confirm you want to proceed.”
Build-a-Bear
When looking at the RuPaul Bear items available for purchase, the Build-a-Bear logo basically disappears from view, with "The Bear Cave" label replacing it at the top of the page. Though this is being promoted as a collaboration with the Build-a-Bear brand, it appears that only customers 18 years or older are allowed to purchase the RuPaul Bear through the company’s The Bear Cave label.
Scroll through to see pictures of the RuPaul Bear, which is being sold for $56 (standalone) or $64 (gift set) via Build-a-Bear’s The Bear Cave website.
