"I just thought, 'Wow, I'm happy to be here, but he thinks that I am currently at a local gig rolling around on the sticky floor for wet singles,'" the RuPaul's Drag Race legend explained.

Trixie Mattel has now shared some major tea regarding her awkward interview on the Zach Sang Show, where the RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 3 winner had to kindly correct the host after he made various comments assuming that Trixie was still a rising drag artist performing at local bars for cash tips.

Trixie was interviewed on the Zach Sang Show (platformed under Amazon Music) in an episode from May 24, 2024. At the time, Trixie was promoting many projects related to music, TV shows, podcasts, tours, and original content, not to mention the makeup empire that she's built with Trixie Cosmetics.

In the interview, Zach asked several (arguably surface-level) questions that prompted the Drag Race superstar to eventually, politely correct him. In a recent episode of The Bald and the Beautiful podcast (cohosted by Trixie and Katya), fellow Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen brought up that very specific, viral moment between Trixie and Sang.

"You know what I'm obsessed with?" Bob started. "You and… what's that guy's name? The radio guy. You did his podcast, and he was like, 'In these bars…' And you go, 'Yeah, there are bars in the theaters [that I perform in].'"

Trixie busted out laughing. "Zach! Zach," she recalled, meaning Zach Sang, host of Amazon Music's Zach Sang Show.

"That was so bitchy, and so cunty," Bob recalled. "But it was epic."

Trixie responded, "I wasn't trying to be bitchy or cunty, but I was like…"

"Because you gathered!" Bob teased.

Trixie went on with the bit, saying: "I didn't, Bob! I didn't gather." She then leaned in on the joke — that perhaps she did gather the interviewer — even further, making a hilariously innocent face. "No, I did not!"

Bob commented, "That was so great. I loved that."

"But I didn't mean it that way," Trixie replied, earnestly. "I just thought, 'Wow, I'm happy to be here, but he thinks that I am currently at a local gig rolling around on the sticky floor for wet singles. He thinks that that's what I'm doing.' And by the way, I've done it, and I'm not above it, and I'll do it again. But that's not what we're doing today, ho."

Bob then thought back to another viral moment:

"Remember that clip of you lip syncing at the brunch? And everyone was like, 'Honey, the rent must've been…' Did you know about people saying this? When you did the comedy (…), everyone was like, 'The rent must have been due! Baby, the mortgage must've been mortgage-ing!"

"Shut up!" Trixie protested, laughing. "You're such a liar!"

Bob defended herself, "I didn't say this! That's what the internet was saying."

What happened between Trixie Mattel and Zach Sang?

Trixie appeared in an episode of the Zach Sang Show, titled "Trixie Mattel — Drag Queens, RuPaul, Brittany Bronski," from May 24, 2024.

In the interview, Sang — who identifies as a part of the LGBTQ+ community — asked Trixie if she "ever doubted" drag as a career path. The All Stars 3 winner discussed her passion for makeup, as well as past jobs and experiences cutting hair and waiting tables.

"And [that is] all kind of a collection of what you do now, right?" Sang asked. "Like, just to wait tables, for instance, takes so much personality, so much charisma, so much one-on-one energy… which, by the way, that's exactly what you're doing, to a certain degree, when you're up there performing to a bar full people. And makeup is very much in the DNA of what you do as well."

Trixie replied, "Yeah, the theaters I work in do have bars. They do."

At that point in time, the Drag Race superstar had already gone on several solo tours around the world for nearly a decade, released four studio albums, and was once again on the road with Katya on their sold-out The Bald and the Beautiful tour with scheduled dates for months to come.

Trixie's appearance on the Zach Sang Show was meant to promote season 2 of her real estate renovation series on Max, Trixie Motel: Drag Me Home, which was premiering a few days after the interview. She was also celebrating the fifth-year anniversary of her incredibly successful makeup empire Trixie Cosmetics.

Trixie ultimately dealt with that situation in a very polite manner and went on with the interview as expected. Sang likely didn't mean any harm, but he also didn't seem to understand that Trixie had just clarified what she does for a living as the most-followed Drag Race contestant in herstory and an incredibly successful businessperson who was even honored in the Business category of the 2024 Out100 this year.

Overall, this awkward interview is in the rearview mirror for both Trixie and Sang. Nonetheless, one can't deny how hilarious it was for Bob to bring it up in an interview with Trixie and let her give fans the full tea of what was going through her head at the time.
