Tyra Banks is a Mom

The past few months have been pretty intense for Tyra Banks.

To add to the whirlwind, Tyra announced last night that she is the new mother of a healthy baby boy--York Banks Asla. The announcement came via everyone's favorite social media platform in an adorable and sensitive post:

The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He's got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik's mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world.

In the post, we learn that she and her photographer boyfriend, Erik Asla, had their new bundle of joy via a surrogate and shared a beautfiful sentiment about the experience: "As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone."

That shouldn't come as a surprise because Tyra shared her intimate struggles with fertility on the FABLife after supermodel/chef/co-host Chrissy Teigen opened up about her and husband John Legend's own struggle with conception.

The sharing on that particular episode brought the tears and not just from Tyra.

By taking a glance back at Tyra's past few months, one could possibly assume that pending motherhood factored into the cancellation of her two television commitments.

In November 2015, Tyra called it quits on her new talk show FABLife which was later cancelled after its first season. Not long before her exit on that show, the announcement of America's Next Top Model's cancellation came in October 2015.

Without the extreme committment that hosting roles on television require, one might think that Tyra was clearing her workload to make the space for her new son, who will undoubtedly be beautiful.
