Whenever Amazon begins production on its upcoming Lord of the Rings series, it seems that they've found their Gandalf. Or, rather, their Gandalf found them.
Sir Ian McKellen, who played the grey wizard in all three of Peter Jackson's film adaptations of the books, has enthusiastically voiced his interest in reprising his role if the character is present in the upcoming series.

Over the weekend, during an appearance on Graham Norton's BBC Radio 2 show, McKellen was asked if seeing another actor take up his wizard's hat and staff would bother him. "What do you mean, another Gandalf?" he replied. "I haven't said yes because I haven't been asked," he added. "But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it? Gandalf is over 7000 years old, so I'm not too old."
The series will be a collaborative effort between Amazon Studios, the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. The stories in the series will predate The Fellowship of the Ring, but will still be set in Middle Earth. As far as we're concerned there will only ever be one Gandalf, evidenced by the clip, below.
