While some networks and producers struggle to show diversity and include LGBTQ characters in their narratives, Greg Berlanti seems to have a stash of gay characters and superheroes in his back pocket, ready to employ any time.
The latest example is openly gay actor Russell Tovy (Quantico, Looking) who has been tapped to play The Ray, an openly gay superhero in an upcoming Arrow-verse crossover event, as well as in a standalone animated series on The CW Seed, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Before he's infused with light-based powers by, of course, a freak accident, Raymond "Ray" Terrill is a reporter who writes about injustice, hoping to affect change in the world. After he gains his new abilities he decides to take a more direct route, fighting crime and thwarting injustice early on.
