We've finally been given the chance to sneak a peek at the fantastical flora and fauna in the film adaptation of Jeff VanderMeer's 2014 best-selling book, Annihilation.
The Alex Garland-directed (Ex Machina) film follows the twelfth expedition into the perplexing Area X. Having been cut off from civilization for decades, nature has reinstated its dominion over the zone, and none of the previous 11 expeditions have returned with the same reports--or alive.
As a scientist on the current expedition, Portman is questioned about a lifeform she found on the other side of the border of Area X. In the teaser we're bombarded with visions of humanoid figures made of tangled vines, a utopic landscape, and an unseen enemy driving the expedition to its breaking point. Watch, below.
