Jinkx Monsoon Switches Styles for Her Latest Album

Jinkx Monsoon, The Ginger Snapped, RuPaul's Drag Race

It's been a couple years since Jinkx Monsoon treated us to a feature-length album of her old-school, kooky style. The RuPaul's Drag Race season five winner stuck to what she does best for her first two albums, The Inevitable Album (2014), and ReAnimated (2015), but this time around she's drawing on her favorite acts of the 90s for The Ginger Snapped.

"This album is a departure from our well-known cabaret style, diving into our favorite rock influences," the internationally-recognized drag queen said in a release. "We drew inspiration from our favorite rock and ska artists of the 90s, while maintaining our distinct sound and lyrical prowess."

Monsoon and her partner, Major Scales, collaborated with the likes of Fred Schneider of the B-52's, Lady Rizo, and Amanda Palmer for her third album, produced by Yair Evnine.

"This album is special to me because it is the ultimate culmination of all the experiences I've enjoyed over the years since winning Drag Race, and perfectly encapsulates the unique partnership of myself and Major Scales," she said.

The Ginger Snapped is available on music services now. Watch the video for the album's debut single, "Cartoons and Vodka," below.
