“Don’t copy me.”

Though production of the Elton John biopic, Rocketman, won't be underway for a few months, the film's star Taron Egerton is already getting notes from the subject himself.

"Elton has told Taron, 'Don't copy me. Don't think you have to sing it exactly the way that I sang it. Don't think you have to perform it the way I performed it. I think it's the challenge for the actor to embody the spirit and not get into thinking they have to do an impersonation," David Furnish told The Hollywood Reporter.

Furnish, John's husband and producer of the film, says the film will center on the singer's road to recovery from drug and alcohol abuse in the 1990s, saying it was a "real watershed" moment in his life. For his part, Egerton has already had a bit of practice, having sang the Elton John classic, "I'm Still Standing" in the 2016 animated feature, Sing. Watch Egerton's number from Sing below, and get ready for more impressive vocals to come.
