Adam Rippon Recalls Coming Out to His Mom Before Emotional DWTS Performance

Everyone's coming out experience is different. For our cover star Adam Rippon (the first openly gay male athlete to win a Team USA medal at the Winter Olympics), it was a very special moment.

He's currently competing (and dominating!) in Dancing With the Stars, which is currently in a spin-off "athletes" season right now. Before his emotional performance dancing to Coldplay's O, he dedicated the dance to his "MVP," his mom, Kelly.

While doing so, he recalled his coming out moment in his early 20s. "I came out in my early 20s, and my mom was always there for me. And it didn't matter to her," he said.
