New film Mario highlights homophobia in the sports world.

A new Swiss-German movie, Mario, seeks to explore the experience between two soccer teammates who begin dating and how team management and other players react.

From the trailer, Mario Luthi (Max Hubacher) and Leon Saldo (Aaron Altaras) navigate the hardships of being in a relationship that has to remain a secret due to the homophobic pressures of their surroundings. In the trailer, you'll also see how difficult it is to be gay in a locker room.

It's clear that keeping their relationship - and sexuality - a secret will affect their soccer playing as well as the budding romance.

Check out the trailer below (which premiered on Gay Times).

Mario will be released in select UK cinemas on 13 July and available on DVD everywhere in September.
