Keira Knightley Is a Crossdressing French Novelist in Colette

Keira Knightley is at her best when she's corseted and involved in some type of Victorian scandal, and that's exactly what looks to be happening in the first trailer for Colette. Knightley stars as Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette in the biopic, a French novelist who pens a book about her school days under her husband's name, only to have him steal her fame for himself.

In the trailer, Knightley dresses in a man's suit and also flirts with the gender-fluid Marquise de Belbeuf, with whom the real-life novelist had an affair. There is reportedly a huge Oscar campaign around the film and Knightley especially, and the trailer gives us a glimpse at what is sure to be a high-drama spectacle.

Colette is in theaters this fall, just in time for awards season.
