There are few people as synonymous with the MySpace era as Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson, and both have turned their early social media notoriety into huge success thanks to YouTube (and makeup, in Star's case). Like many YouTube personalities, both Dawson and Star have weathered their share of scandals while at the same time building huge followings. These similarities seem to be part of what inspired Dawson's new YouTube series, "The Secret World of Jeffree Star," which premiered this week.
Since Wednesday, Dawson has released two parts of the five part series: the first focuses on Star's insane wealth. Star gives Dawson a tour of his Calabasas home (his neighbors are literally all of the Kardashians), including the pin-protected closet filled with $7 million worth of designer clothing.
In the second episode, Dawson is transformed into Jeffree Star with some assistance from fellow YouTuber James Charles. After getting the Star treatment (sorry, I couldn't pass up the opportunity for that), Dawson talks to the beauty guru about his career as a musician. Star shares some surprising information, like the fact that Akon signed him to his label at the height of his MySpace fame, believing Star would be the next Lady Gaga.
"The Secret World of Jeffree Star" will continue airing on Dawson's YouTube channel.
