The Oscar-winning director of 'Precious' and viral Instagrammer Dremon Cooper are plotting a gay superhero film.
If you're anything like me, you've waited your entire life to have a superhero as gay as they are good at fighting crime. Thanks to Lee Daniels (and social media), we just might be getting one.
The Oscar-nominated director of Precious and Empire is apparently bringing a femme gay superhero to the big screen. And his star? Dremon Cooper, the 19-year-old Instagrammer that flipped onto our timelines and into our hearts late last year in a pair of fabulous pink high heel boots.
"Yall remember maybe 10, 12 years ago, I said my dream was to make a gay superhero film. Well guess what?" Daniels said in
"Dreams do come true and I found my superhero. And America, world, get ready 'cause..." Daniels said before Cooper finished the statement.
"I'm about to give y'all a combo." The phrase has become a motto of Cooper's, pulled from his now-viral video series in which he plays "Super Bitch." Known by the handle @Hesosoutheast (he grew up in the southeast Washington, D.C. area), and to the ballroom community as Destiny West, Cooper spoke to Out earlier this year and revealed a love of agile superheros.
"Growing up, I used to love Spider-Man and Catwoman," he said. "So I just began to emulate them by climbing up the walls and doing flips. And no, I don't have any formal training."
There's no word on when this film is coming, or even what the storyline might entail. But we're ready, regardless!
