Billy Eichner Will Star in a Major Gay Romantic Comedy

Step aside, Jennifer Lopez; go sell some leggings, Kate Hudson; get out of my face (and release a Big Little Lies season 2 trailer) Reese Witherspoon -- there's a new romantic comedy lead in town. Billy Eichner will star in a rom-com produced by Judd Apatow. I smell a makeover montage!
Eichner, best known for his web series Billy on the Street and guest appearances on American Horror Story, will star in the as-yet unnamed film, helmed by Neighbors director Nick Stoller and produced by Apatow Productions. According to Deadline, the rom com "will center around two men who have commitment problems and are attempting a relationship." Said every gay man in the world, "I felt that."
"Getting emotional reading all your messages about this, especially from my LGBTQ friends," Eichner tweeted after the news broke on Tuesday. "I will do my best not to let you down!!!"
The actor, who will voice Timon in this summer's live action The Lion King remake, appeared on The Bachelor in January and said afterward that he'd like to be the first gay Bachelor. "It may sound silly -- and I'm not a huge reality show guy honestly -- but a gay man as The Bachelor would open up a lot of hearts and minds in this country," he wrote. A mainstream romantic comedy (co-signed by Judd Apatow) centered on a queer relationship might also open up a lot of hearts and minds.
What will a gay-led romantic comedy even look like? Will the villain be a bitchy WeHo queen? Will the quirky best friend be the kind of cishetero woman who would usually be the romantic lead? Will the star-crossed lovers interrupt their big presentation to pop a Truvada? The possibilities, mama!
Eichner isn't the only queer actor with a rom com on the way: Kristen Stewart will star in Happiest Season (opposite Mackenzie Davis) as a lesbian meeting her girlfriend's conservative family during a holiday getaway.
