In Love is Strange, Ira Sachs's "post-gay landmark in cinema," John Lithgow and Alfred Molina play Ben and George, a gay couple who decide to get legally married later in life. It throws their comfortable New York City existence into turmoil, and the rest of the film follows them as they deal with sorting out their families' issues as they deal with financial issues.
"All of our lives, particularly the drama of our lives, tend to be deeply affected by money and class," Sachs told Out. "I think all of my films have been aware of that. It's where drama comes from. In psychoanalysis, they say the only thing harder to talk about than sex is money, which sort of tells you its place."
At one point, when Ben and George need a break from their families, they meet for a drink at Julius', New York City's oldest gay bar. Here's a sneak peek at this humorous scene, one of our favorites, from the movie.
