EXCLUSIVE: Chris Garneau Debuts ‘Winter Song # 2’

To call Chris Garneau's "Winter Song # 2", a track off his upcoming Winter Games LP due out on November 12, sad, or sorrowful, or even mournful would be both totally on the mark and equally as incorrect. Though the song, lyrically, melodically, and tonally is heart-wrenchingly woebegone, the song is also profoundly and bewitchingly beautiful and to label it as merely morose would be to ignore the track's complex and enchanting melodies. The song's sad, but just like a Hopper painting or a Dickenson poem, this is part of what makes so powerful and utterly excellent.

"This record isn't about trivial shit," says Garneau about Winter Games. "It's about why love doesn't happen right, about the heartache of having your father leave you, your cousin sexually abuse you, your family reject you." It is a testament to Garneaus's skills as a singer, songwriter, and composer that he is able construct something so rich and enwrapping on top of a foundation of loss and melancholy.
