"If they think the 'Swim No More' video is inappropriate, I can only imagine what the '3 Dolla Bill' short will be," says Solomon, referring to his latest short, "3 Dolla Bill," which debuts on Out.com today. YouTube's recently banned the original cut of his "Swim No More" video, finding it too hot to handle, requiring it to be edited down. But that doesn't faze the San Diego native; he's too busy looking ahead.
Today is the release date for not only Solomon's "3 Dolla Bill" short but also his latest EP, Le Garcon. Billed as the "prequel" to his upcoming debut LP, Why Boys Cry, Le Garcon is a deeply personal album that touches on a range of topics--from a turbulent love life to a troubled childhood. "There is this boy inside of me who never had the ability to grow up," says the "Wit Us U Can't" singer. "He never had a peaceful childhood, never enjoyed being a teenager, and he never could relish being a college student. So in the process, there is this angst."
At times a meditation on this "angst" and at other times an attempt--perhaps successful, perhaps not--at catharsis, Le Garcon is a completion of contradictions. Both somber and upbeat, vulnerable and boastful, Solomon's latest EP gives a 360-degree view of someone who has put it all out there and is now trying to make sense of what he sees.
