Janelle Monae, the ArchAndroid, the Electric Lady, the Q.U.E.E.N. herself, has just released the video for "Electric Lady," the eponymous track off her sophomore LP. Taking a break from high-concept videos like those for "PrimeTime" and "Q.U.E.E.N.," Monae's "Electric Lady" video employs a classic music video conceit: a kick-ass house party. And you know the Electro Phi Betas throw the best damn party sorority row has ever seen.
Now, don't get us wrong, we do miss the high-concept art direction and narratives we saw in her earlier videos. It's not that she needs them as a gimmick, she's a superstar in her own right, but they were part of the fun. Also, the product placement--which is standard in videos now and that's just fine--could have been folded in a little better and made less, well, obvious. All nit-picking aside, we love the video--it's solid.
Now, where do we rush Electro Phi Beta?
