Somebody Tell Me What’s Going on in Perfume Genius’ ‘Grid’ Video

Perfume Genius (a.k.a. Mike Hadreas) is not one to shy away from being provocative. Always impactful and often high concept, Hadreas has never dialed it in when it comes to his music videos; just take a look at his "Hood" and "Queen." And though I think that I sufficiently "got" those, his video for "Grid," a track off his upcoming third LP, Too Bright, has me scratching my head.

According to a press release the Charlote Rutherford directed video "adds to this intense atmosphere of resistance and release, with Hadreas literally surrounded by his (hentai-clad) demons before confronting them head on and being devoured by them." I am unsure if that description helped me understand the video any better and this is still my reaction.
