Everyone's favorite '80s high school sociopath-suicide comedy is headed for the stage. A musical theater production of Heathers is currently being developed by Andy Fickman (Race to Witch Mountain) and Kevin Murphy (Reefer Madness). This week, Veronica Mars' Kristen Bell took on Winona Ryder's lead role in an early reading, though whether she's actually cast is TBD.
Although Shannen Doherty's been dabbling in theater lately -- or at least, playing a backstabbing-beyotch drama teacher on TV -- we won't get our hopes up for a live reprise on her part. We will, however, have high hopes for the score, helmed by Larry O'Keefe, Tony-nominated composer of Broadway's Legally Blonde. Quoth Fickman: " 'I love my dead gay son.' If you can get that into a song, then that is just perfect."
