We didn't want to believe the rumors. We stuck our heads in the sand, we lashed out at those who claimed the end was nigh, we spent twenty minutes visualizing harmony and romance and then beamed those good vibes westward to LA, but it seems that none of it was enough to keep our favorite couple -- Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson -- together.

Yesterday Lindsay herself confirmed that she and Sam were taking a "brief break" so that "I can focus on myself." As of last week the two were still denying that there was trouble in paradise but last weekend Lindsay was barred from attending a Ronson family function and then a locksmith was seen paying a house call to Ronson's home, where Lohan had resided in recent months.

Lindsay seems to be holding out that the two will get back together (from our experience, "brief breaks" hardly ever result in a stronger, more committed union later on down the road) but Sam seems to be moving on, writing on her MySpace page yesterday that the "aura in pleasanton is very pleasant."

It seems only time will tell, but we have a horrible, horrible feeling that this -- and consequently -- nothing will ever be right again.
