Cold Method Plays Hard

Straight from Amsterdam and gaining its footing after 3 years on the market, Cold Method is a European brand that won't scare you off with typically European prices. Think $500 suits and $300 leather jackets; $130 jeans and $100 knits. Already outfitted at hotspots in London, Paris, Amsterdam and Milan, the understated yet intriguing pieces are now debuting stateside, to what should-be large appeal among the fashion know-alls.

The collections are based upon what the label has deemed the 9 aesthetics (aka pieces) of an appropriately dressed man: t-shirt, denim, shirt, pants, knitwear, suit, coat, accessory and cm2, their expanded label (and shameless plug). The idea might seem obvious, but the clothes -- with their smart tailoring, various textures, and mix-matchability -- allow head designer Mark Ainsworth to get away with it. Plus, his philosophy isn't such a bad mantra: "These [9 aesthetics] accentuate a man's personality. At first you won't notice me, but if you look closer I will catch your eye. I make men look discreetly well dressed." After all, sometimes an understatement is the most powerful kind.
