Gaga's partners in crime Semi-Precious Weapons were known for putting on the wildest, most mascara-running, heel-breaking rock shows in NYC before they migrated to the West Coast. You might remember them as the opening act on Gaga's Monster Ball Tour (Mama Monster used to open for them back when she was still a brunette Baby Monster.) SPW is headlining this Saturday at The Roxy in Los Angeles as part of their new party EMPIRE. Teaser clips of songs from their upcoming album showcase a poppier, dancier sound for the glam rock saviors, but we bet their live show is still as filthy and glamorous as ever.
November 19th, 8pm, The Roxy. Free- All Ages. RSVP by emailing roxy@semipreciousweapons.com.
24th MIX New York Experimental Queer Film Festival
Another Adam Sandler movie? More Twilight? Really? If you're looking for something outside the usual Cineplex fare this weekend, check out the 24th MIX New York Experimental Queer Film Festival, featuring everything from a series of radical Thai queer films called Body Fluid Is Revolutionary, to selections from the three hour Arabian 'porno opus' Arabesque (starring porn icon Francois Sagat), to Flaming Ears, a "science fiction dystopian lesbian romance filled with paraphilia, violence and vivid color".
At Mix Factory, 45 Bleeker St.
