Chaz Bono Proposes Marriage To Longtime Girlfriend

Chaz Bono is about to be a married man.

On Sunday night's premiere of Being Chaz, the trans superstar's new reality show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN network, onetime Dancing with the Stars contestant and Out100 honoree Bono proposed to his girlfriend Jennifer Elia while the pair was on top of Seattle's Space Needle.

I wanted to pick a special place, Bono said before presenting Elia with an engagement ring that was also her birthday gift. It went over pretty well.

"It's gorgeous. Thank you so much," Elia said, obviously touched.

"What he did was romantic," she said to the camera later.

Considering what the two have been through, though, from Bono's female-to-male transition, the threats he received while on DWTS and the spotlight the two are living under, it was something else Elia said that seemed to encapsulate the moment perfectly (for us at least): "Heavy shit, man."
