Who would have thought that a proven history of singing and dancing for the masses would lead to Broadway musical success? Probably whoever put Glee star Darren Criss in the lead role of the How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which performed better in its first week with Criss in the role than in any week before. It seems Daniel Radcliffe's Harry Potter magic couldn't carry over to the Great White Way.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Criss managed to keep over 99 percent of the Al Hirschfeld theater's seats filled throughout the first week of his performance and undoubtedly helped secure the week's nearly $1.4 million gross. Even during what is usually a post-Christmas slump for most shows, Criss managed to draw enough of a crowd to require Police barricades to keep the Gleeful fans at bay.
So what will happen after January 22, when the young idol steps out of his Broadway shoes?
Another target of teenage adoration, Nick Jonas, will step into them and we'll see then if the formula will work again.
