News from across the pond: the annual Brit Awards, the U.K.'s equivalent of the Grammys, have announced their nominees for the best in music of 2012. The awards split up British musicians into separate categories from their international peers, but the number of household names in the British categories speaks to the huge impact English musicians are making in America.
No surprise that Out fave Adele is one of the Brit's most high profile nominees. A previous winner, Adele scored nominations for British Female Solo Artist, plus her album 21 and her single "Someone Like You" are both up in major categories.
Other Britons you can expect to see on the red carpet include Coldplay (Gwyneth already has Best Dressed wrapped up), Florence + the Machine, Kate Bush and Anna Calvi.
"Domino" singer Jessie J. is nominated in several categories where she will go head to head with the night's frontrunner. Already huge in England and profiled in Out" Jessie J. is on the brink of major stardom here in the U.S., but will it be enough to take down Adele? My magic 8 ball says it's doubtful.
There are a lot of familiar names among the international nominees. Lady Gaga, Rihanna and new mom Beyonce can breathe easy. Not competing with Adele they all have a shot to win something. The men you can expect to see include Bruno Mars, David Guetta, plus Kanye and Jay Z. Also up for awards: the hotties of Maroon 5 and Foster the People.
