Gloria Estefan is about to bring the Florida heat up to New York. The Miami-based performer and legendary gay icon is set to premiere the sexy debut music video for her hot single "Hotel Nacional" off her upcoming dance album. And in true diva style the clip will be first seen when Estefan takes to the stage this Friday night at Splash bar in New York City.
In a new interview with The Village Voice Estefan explains that the video clip will have a drag queen theme to it, with the video serving as an homage to campy gay classic films like Some Like It Hot, The Birdcage, Cabaret, and, of course, Rocky Horror Picture Show. "Glosferatu" is the name of her character, a "different take on Frank-N-Furter," she says. Gloria even jokes to The Voice that she may be a gay man in drag herself explaining, "I have to turn into a drag queen version of myself to get onstage. The makeup, the heels, the whole shebang."
When asked about what we can expect from the new album, she promised a sexually-charged, danceable, celebration designed to turn the beat around. Collaborating with husband Emilio Estefan and Pharrell Williams, the set should be packed with catchy beats and sexy lyrics.
In addition to promoting her music Estefan is also looking forward to her upcoming role on TV's Glee, where she will play mom to lesbian character Santana. She tells us that we can expect a mixure of acting and singing from the part, but don't get your hopes up just yet! "It's all about music. It would be a shame to be on there and not sing. [Series creator] Ryan Murphy is really excited about at least a two-show arc minimum, maybe more. I'm a big fan of his work," Estefan says. The promise of a Gloria Estefan/Naya Rivera duet has as setting our DVRs in anticipation.
