During high school, many people are struck with the desire to trounce all their enemies just for looking so happy to be alive all the time. This is a staple of coming of age movies and has been for a long time: Mean Girls, Heathers, Carrie, the list goes on.
Taking its cues from these classics, sans the homicidal tendencies, is the upcoming flick written and starring Glee's own out and proud reader's favorite Chris Colfer, Struck by Lightning.
And no surprise there. As we know all too well, gay people are often the victims of bullying and Colfer has spoken frequently of his unfortunate personal experience with the issue. As a teen, Colfer was bullied to the point of having to be home schooled for nearly two years.
So, judging from the newly released trailer, the nerd-friendly Struck by Lightning is a kind of revenge flick. But that notion is turned on its head once you consider that the main character Colfer plays is telling the story of his high school comeuppance from beyond the grave.
You guessed it. The protagonist, Carson, has been struck by lightning. In his recounting of the tale, we learn he was a gloomy outcast who decided to blackmail all the cool kids into contributing to the literary magazine he hopes will get him into Northwestern.
Sounds like a pretty solid must see to us! The film also stars Allison Janney and Christina Hendricks, if you needed more reasons to be excited. Coming soon to a theater near you.
