Every since "212" dropped, everyone's been on Azealia Banks's jock--whether it's the New York Times discussing her mass appeal and bisexuality or even Out, where strains of her songs can be heard blasting through computer speakers on any given day. As a new interview reveals, however, the Harlem native feels like she needs to take a step back from the spotlight to concentrate on her work.
"All the praise from the fashion world is great," Banks told Nylon magazine, "but now everybody wants a piece and everybody wants an interview, but I need to step away and get my music done!"
What music is that, you ask? Why, her debut album. That's right--even with all the attention she's getting, Banks doesn't even have a proper record out. But don't fret, as she says she's working on it right now.
"It's called Broke With Expensive Taste and it's coming out in September," she revealed. "The theme is a young girl trying to find it, you know... Success! Herself! Her path! The young girl trying to make it! That girl who's at the end of her childhood trying to get a job and make some money, you know? She needs to get what she can get! She needs to go out there and show people she knows how to work for it."
And even though Banks herself seems to know how to work for it, she made it more than clear that she's staying down-to-eartyh. "Yes my eyelashes are real! Of course they're real! I was born this way," she told the mag. "Oh, and I use this mascara by BeneFit called "They're Real." And they are! Everything on me is real!"
