There's something a bit off about Bernie.
The title character of the new Jack Black-Shirley MacLaine movie isn't your average guy. While it's unclear if he's gay or just really confused, the assistant funeral director and church choir member in Carthage, Tex., doesn't quite fit in.
Maybe that's why he embarks on a strange best friendship with MacLaine's Marjorie, a sour old lady nobody in town likes. Maybe it's why they spend all their time together, traveling, hanging out, and enjoying long sessions of her berating him. Maybe it's why when she goes missing, he's accused of killing her.
No matter what the deal with Bernie is, the trailer for the movie just dropped and has us chuckling--not something we normally do for Mr. Black--and wondering why it is we never became best friends with Shirley MacLaine. We'd never kill her! Probably.
