Al Pacino is obsessed with Oscar Wilde. We've seen him evolve over the years--from beautiful boy in Panic in Needle Park, tenderly in love with a transexual in Dog Day Afternoon, sexy stud in Cruising, drug kingpin in Scarface. Oh and don't forget his iconic role in the Godfather trilogy. Lately Pacino has made star turns on stage in Shakespeare on Broadway. But he's also been working on Oscar Wilde's Salome (opposite Jessica Chastain). And he's made an experimental documentary, Wilde Salome, about his obsession as well.
From the trailer (watch it below), it appears that Pacino may have gone a little crazy in the process. Tonight you can find out for yourself. Pacino hosts a premiere screening at San Francisco's iconic Castro Theatre, presented by Banana Republic.
The film's debut celebrates the 130th anniversary of Oscar Wilde's stay in San Francisco in March 1882, and an official proclamation provided by the San Francisco mayor's office will officially mark March 21, 2012, as "Oscar Wilde Day."
"Oscar Wilde visited this amazing city over a century ago and we so very much look forward to sharing this film and debut at this great event," says Barry Navidi, Wilde Salome producer.
According to a press release, a portion of tickets were made available to the general public ($25 at www.glbthistory.org/WildeSalome) and will benefit the GLBT Historical Society www.glbthistory. org.
