Is this just another regressive way of looking at the gay jester?
OK, I admit that TLC's Say Yes to the Dress is an addictive that I must withold from myself otherwise I spiral into hours of wasted time looking at crazy people spending outrageous amounts of tacky garments. But last night's Say Yes to The Dress: Bridesmaids shows wedding consultant Brandon (pictured here) having what he calls a "tough.com backslash impossible" challenge when he's faced with having to pick out a bridesmaid's dress for a man in rockabilly drag.
The fact that he's dressing a plus-size guy as a bridesmaid is one foible. The fact that Brandon is the proto-gay jester is quite another. Yes, I still think about all these images of queerness on TV and wonder what it means (as I wrote in an earlier essay about ABC's programming). But what's worse: the fact that we're gonna get a hideous bridesmaid gown or that Brandon is gonna swish it up and down for the camera? You decide.
