Against Me! singer Tom Gabel reveals plans to begin living as a woman in 'Rolling Stone'
Rolling Stone reports that Tom Gabel, frontman for the band Against Me! "who has dealt privately with gender dysphoria for years, will soon begin the process of transition, by taking hormones and undergoing electrolysis treatments."
The story is in the mag's upcoming issue but the web is already all a twitter with the news since it's the first time that a major rock star has come out as trans.
Gabel will take the name Laura Jane Grace, and will remain married to her wife Heather, according to Rolling Stone, although they reside in Florida and same-sex marriage is not recognized. As he told the magazine:
"I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about--is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind."
The full story--with photos by Cass Bird (one on RollingStone.com shows Laura (nee Tom) with a towel wrapped around her hair and full tattoos--will be on newsstands on Friday.
