The star-studded Thursday event was already set to break records. Now what?
George Clooney's Thursday night fundraising dinner was already set to be bananas, with Obama campaign sources involved with the planning and organizing of it telling THR that the event would collect "just shy of $15 million" for the president's re-election bid. Now, in the wake of Obama's announcement that his lovely daughters and wife have swayed him into openly supporting, we wonder if it could exceed even those lofty estimates.
The event at Clooney's Studio City home is being organized by DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and is expected to include a starstudded list of supporters--Barbra Streisand, Robert Downey Jr. and producer Susan Downey, J.J. Abrams, CAA's Bryan Lourd (No. 30 on Out's Power List) and ICM's Chris Silbermann.
As THR so helpfully points out: "If the $15 million figure were correct, that would mean the online contest for a pair of tickets at Obama and Clooney's table will have raised $9 million-$10 million. The dinner itself is expected to bring in $5 million-$6 million." That will mean it would eclipse the previous one-night fundraising record of $11 million, which goes to the 2008 Obama event that featured a Babs concert and a dinner at Los Angeles' Greystone Mansion.
