Shirley MacLaine on Maggie Smith: 'We Were Lovers In Another Life'

The New York Times's David Itzkoff interviewed Shirley MacLaine about her role on Season 3 of Downton Abbey, and MacLaine revealed that the two grande dames of acting started to reminisce about life and lovers during one lengthy shoot.

As MacLaine states: "When we were doing a press conference here, someone asked me if I had known Maggie before. And I said, 'Oh, yes, we were lovers in another life.' [Laughs] I don't know where that came from."

Itzkoff: Do you genuinely believe that?

MacLaine: How the hell do you know? Listen, since I don't know where it came from, maybe it's true. I have no idea.

Season 3 of Downton Abbey premieres this Sunday, January 6.
