Azealia Banks Hosts Twitter Summit to Redefine 'Faggot'

When it comes to hip-hop, Azealia Banks is one of the most dazzling wordsmiths of her generation. But when it comes to day-to-day life, she's one of the clumsiest, most irresponsible English-users in the entirety of America. (And if you've watched any reality show ever, then you know she's got some stiff competition.)

In her latest diatribe, she rekindled her Twitter feud with Perez Hilton by dropping the word "faggot." It started yesterday, when Banks posted a track of her rapping over the viral hit "Harlem Shake." After Banks' version was pulled from Soundcloud, Banks Tweeted at Baer "why you coccblockin tho??? Lmaoooooo." He replied: "cause its not ur song lol." And then, thanks to Twitter, things devolved into a bitch fight--rather quickly.

Banks tweeted: "you're a pussy. You don't belong in hip-hop." Then she called Baauer a "faggot" (or more precisely: a "faggoot.") As if that weren't enough, she even attempted to redefine it as something other than a gay slur.

GIRL. Don't go all historian on us right now, K? I'm pretty sure that "faggot" still meant "bundle of sticks" back in 1905. Also, why do you have to go and insult all the blood suckers out there by calling 'em fags? Edward and Bella are probably crying into each others' shoulders and eating their feelings now! Rude. But most importantly (and seriously), "nigger" is still not considered an acceptable term to use in everyday life. Like "faggot," it calls to mind an entire history of bigotry, discrimination, and cruelty. Soooo, as Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears said when you first tiptoed into hot water last month, "It's all about context. And right now, I'm sorry, but context is not on your side."
